Friday Fill-in!

1. Have you and your spouse agreed to live in separate locations (a geographical bachelor tour) knowing that the short-term inconvenience would have long-term benefits for your family? How did it work for you?
I guess that's kind of what we're doing now...I am still in Ohio and my husband is down in Texas. I could have gone down with him, but I decided to stay behind because I had one more day to work (and I didn't want to leave my job on bad terms!) plus I'm in the process of moving out of my apartment and I need to finalize the wedding. No long-term benefits, really. I just need to get stuff done. And it'll be nice to move back home with my mom and spend time with her for 2 weeks before I start my pilgrimage south.

2. What's your favorite thing about being a MilSpouse?
Knowing my that husband is out there defending our country and making a difference...and he's very passionate about making a difference in our world. And to a lesser degree, the practically free healthcare/very affordable dental insurance, military discounts, shopping at the commissary and PX for lower prices/no sales tax, that sort of thing :) haha.

3. If you could still have your spouse/significant other and your family, but take the military life out of it...would you?
I'm not a "tag chaser" - I didn't just fall in love with my husband because he's a soldier. I would still love him the same regardless, but if the military life wasn't apart of our life it just wouldn't be the same I don't think.

4. What have your homecoming experiences been like after a year long tour of separation?
I am unable to answer this question. I have not gone through a deployment yet, and I probably won't for at least the next year & a half to two years. My husband got a platoon, but they just came home from their year-long tour somewhere. After their month of block leave is up, my husband will be assigned as PL to that unit and will be in charge of training them, etc. There is another unit going early next year but they are on lock-down, meaning no staff changes, etc. There is also a unit going relatively soon, but the reason why my husband wasn't picked to be a PL for that unit is because he is married and the other guy is not. It almost makes me feel bad; it's like it's because of me that he can't deploy right off the bat like he wants to. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely thrilled that he'll still be here for awhile, but I know he wants to deploy. He told me not to worry; he has at least the next 7 years to get his chance lol (that's his contract; whether or not he'll be out in 7 years or will go career is a mystery).

5. If you have a child(ren), why did you choose their name(s)? If not, why would name your child something?
No children. And hopefully none anytime soon, I have NO desire to be a parent at the moment. Right now I'm like Christina from Grey's - I care about my life and my career haha. I know that sounds selfish, but that's the truth - for now! And I can't see myself giving up my job to become a SAHM. I worked WAY too hard all of my life and especially the past 4.5 years of college to get my RN, BSN to just give it all up. And I really want E & I to become established before we even start to think about having kids. Now if it were to just happen, then so be it, but we're not planning anything anytime soon. As for naming kids, no idea. E suggested that if we have a son to name him after my father. I like the idea (my father's name was Tom). Or make their middle name Thomas.

.

Are YOU ready for the royal wedding?

I sure as hell am. lol.
actually not really. I honestly don't even really care that much. Aaaand I have no cable at my apartment, so it's not like I can watch it anyway.

I did a trial run with my hair for the wedding. I'm pretty pleased with it :)

less than 3 weeks...

The apartment nearly empty :( Both of my roommates moved out yesterday.

Nothingness! My life is in those boxes haha

I'm about 90% packed - all I have left to pack is just random stuff + the clothes that I left out to get me by the next 3 weeks, maybe longer, depending on when our stuff arrives in Texas.

I hate trying to plan ahead like that, because Ohio is so temperamental. It's in the mid 70's right now and will be for the next few days, but it could snow by like the weekend or something. So I have to keep out clothes for that kind of weather, but at the same time keep out summery stuff for when I move to Texas.

The hair problem for the wedding is SOLVED :) I was able to make an appointment with a hair salon today. And they're even giving me a free complimentary run-through this Thursday to try out a style and make sure that I like it! With the veil & tiara :) I'm excited! And I'm glad I get to do this run-through because I'm kind of picky when it comes to my hair, but I suck too much to do it myself.

The cake problem is also solved. $80 extra and 20+ servings later, I have a cake that will serve up to 130 :) I have a feeling we're going to have right around 110 people, but if there is leftover cake oh well. I would rather have more cake than not enough.

Empty bathroom! :(
And would I look good with bangs? I've had this hair style for quite awhile now, I think it's time for a change...after the wedding, of course.

I made an effort to make myself look nice today. I usually only make such an effort when I'm spending time with the hubby but today I just wanted to do something. And my skin has been so red and broken out lately it's embarrassing.

It's amazing what makeup can do. Thanks Bare Minerals & Urban Decay! haha.

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In!

Hosted by Wifey. Be sure to go to her blog to link up!

1. How many pets do you have? And what type?
no pets at the moment :( we probably still won't get one for awhile, but we're looking at getting either a german shepherd or a husky :)

2. What are your favorite projects to do while hubby is away?
I haven't really had any "favorite" projects lol...E has been away at BOLC pretty much this entire time (he's done now though, yay!) and I filled that time with studying hard and graduating from nursing school, taking an NCLEX review course, studying and passing my NCLEX, and applying for jobs. The next couple of weeks will involve last minute wedding stuff and packing everything up! I have also been spending time with friends :)

3. What are the must-haves in your deployment care packages?
As a n00b army wife with no deployments (yet) I haven't sent any care packages. Some essentials for him will definitely be flammin' hot cheetos and flammin' hot fries, though :)

4. If you could star in any TV show, which would it be?
Grey's Anatomy :) and be a super important, super cool nurse. and show the world that it isn't just about doctors haha.

5. What was the biggest hurdle that you faced during you/your SO's first deployment?
Once again, as a n00b army wife, I have no experience with deployments. E did go away for 2 months 2 summers ago to LDAC & CTLT. We haven't really been apart much and that was hard, but it was also hard not being able to talk to him for a whole month while he was at LDAC. After getting through that, being away from him isn't so bad now. I'm sure my perspective will change once he deploys, though.

Other stuff:
* yesterday was my last day at work. I'm really going to miss the nursing unit I worked on, especially the awesome nurses. I'm hoping that there are brighter things coming my way in the near future.

* I started packing - or more like sorting stuff out because I'm still lacking boxes (apparently all of the places want you to call at like 0700 to save them...ugh!). This is such a pain in the ass. I have no idea where all of this stuff came from, either!

* I found out that E will not get deployed right away. There is another guy from his BOLC class is also down in Fort Hood and they chose that guy over him because this guy isn't married. He'll be going to Iraq later this summer. It almost makes me feel bad, because E would have gone if he wasn't married. I feel like I'm holding him back :/ I'm absolutely thrilled that he'll still be here for awhile, but I know he really wants to deploy. He didn't go through 4 years of college/ROTC + MPBOLC to be on staff. And he will be on staff for awhile until a PL spot opens up. When that will happen, no one knows. He should find out for sure on Tuesday.

* I'm getting marzipan callas on my cake :) I told them to reduce the number of flowers which brought the cost down and to mix with other buttercream flowers for a nice arrangement. yay!

* the wedding is like 3 weeks away and I still haven't found anyone to do hair or makeup...yikes! I decided I am going to do my own makeup, though. I feel like a lot of makeup artists will cake makeup on your face and I wear very minimal...so I know it won't look like me. I went to Bare Escentuals today and got a wedding day look. Let's just say right now I look pretty freakin' awesome, and I look like ME, just better. Even with money being kind of tight now, I dropped quite a bit of it at the store today...but I'm happy with my purchase. And I will look good on my wedding day :)

what's your song?

Hosted by Goodnight Moon, every Thursday! Be sure to link up!

This week is Feels Like Home by Chantal Kreviazuk. I LOVE this song. It has different meanings to me (one of them being with the sorority I used to be apart of) but it's another song that makes me think of E. Being with him and being in his arms really feels like home to me. I also think this will be our first dance song at our wedding in like 3 weeks (yikes!)

E also got us an apartment in Texas. It just so happens to be by a road called Bacon Ranch Road. Bahahaha...sounds like Texas, all right!

And for some reason, Blogger deleted all of the wonderful bloggers that I have been following, yet I still have followers! I don't get it...working on re-following everyone again!
